Julia Sebastien

I am a 4th year student from Toronto double-majoring in SASAH and Media Information and Technoculture. I was the Theatre Critic Commissioner on the AHSC for two years before becoming their play Coordinator; I am now directing The Interrogation of Baruch de Spinoza this January at the Arts Project theatre. I also run SASAH’s faculty Blog.  My hobbies include cooking, fitness, singing/songwriting, writing, watching youtube videos and making really bad puns!

Rebecca Smith

Scholars’ Programs Coordinator, The Student Success Centre

I fell in love with The University of Western Ontario Fall 1997 – yes, 1997!  I came from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to begin my undergraduate studies and have never looked back.  I graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and have continued to explore courses in Psychology, Religious Studies and dabble in the area of co-active coaching.  After graduating from Western I took a summer position at Student Central and that summer job has help mould my career path.  After nearly five years working in Student Central, I took a leap and applied for a position in the (former) Centre for New Students (and now The Student Success Centre) to become the Academic Counselor and Program Coordinator of Scholars’ Programs.  Needless to say my application for the position was successful and over the last five years I have been working with incredible students participating in the Scholar’s Electives Program, Western Scholars and WISE.  I have truly been blessed to be able to support the finest students on campus and I am grateful for the multitude gifts this outstanding group of students gives me each and every day.

My life blessings increased significantly when my husband (Chris Smith) and I welcomed our two children into the world.  Zara and Zaide are amazing little creatures, who bring me more happiness and inspiration than one could possibly imagine.

Megan White

Writer and Junior Editor

2nd Year English Language and Literature and Creative Writing

I am a second year student specializing in English Language and Literature and Creative Writing. My creative works have been published twice as part of Vocamus Press’ annual “Etch” anthology. In addition to writing for Purpology, I also contribute monthly articles to the online women’s magazine Her Campus. Currently, I am working towards the completion of a personal anthology of creative works, containing both poetry and prose, for publication. When not reading or writing articles, I generally spend my time outside on a hike or inside experimenting with a new pie recipe.

Courtney Mann

Writer and Junior Editor

3rd year English Language and Literature and Creative Writing

Hi all! My name is Courtney and I’m currently pursuing an Honors Specialization in Creative Writing and English Language and Literature in my third year here at Western University. Ironic as this may be, words cannot express how much love and passion I have in my heart for this school – and it’s people. Hopefully through this blog I will be able to capture at least some of it. Apart from being an avid reader and writer, I’m a nature enthusiast who will never turn down a fresh cup of coffee or a slice of cheesy pizza, and I dream of being an editor someday – after I’ve travelled the world of course.

Julia Bruce-Robertson

Hi all, I’m Jae.  I’m in second year, studying Physics and Computer Science.  My family is currently living on the beautiful and blustery rock of Newfoundland and Labrador, although I was born in Nova Scotia and grew up in New York.  I love rock climbing and hiking, doodling fashion designs, watching Doctor Who, and looking after my growing army of plants.

Faiza Islam

Writer and Junior Editor

2nd year Medical Science

I am writing for Purpology this year, and I love writing! l compose cynical opinion pieces, and I also like to write horror and mystery fiction. Some of my favourite authors of all times are Arthur Conan Doyle, Haruhi Murakami, Emily Bronte and Oscar Wilde. I am also a second year student in Medical Sciences. I spend a lot of time studying, and watching documentaries about animals. I believe I have watched all crime fiction shows in Netflix as of now.

Alexandra Wyatt

Writer and Junior Editor

2nd year SASAH and Classical Studies

My name is Alex. I talk about Marvel movies and Harry Potter a lot and drink too much coffee. And when I’m not studying towards my double major in SASAH and Classical Studies, I’m probably writing. To me, words are one of the most powerful tools of action, whether that be an op-ed, a creative novel, or a news article. Writing can get you through some of the worst times in your life and open your eyes up to so many wonderful possibilities, just like it did for me. I write novels (two so far) to understand myself, and articles (a lot of them) to understand everything else, because at the end of the day, I just want to learn as much as I can about the world around me.

Alyssa Molko

Head Videographer

4th year Psychology and Criminology

Hey everyone, I’m Alyssa. I am currently in my fourth year here at Western and am pursuing a double-major in Psychology and Criminology. Aside from my schoolwork and extracurriculars, I often spend my time reading and watching more TV shows that I probably should. I’m looking forward to working with the Purpology team and creating great video content this year.

Clara Mustata

2nd year, Arts and Humanities

My name is Clara Mustata and I have a passion for languages, business, and music. I love to express the overlaps of these areas through videography and songwriting. This year I’m looking forward to creating captivating content that engages and inspires Purpology audiences.
