On February 1, which was also the first day of Black History Month, Beyoncé announced that she was pregnant with twins. In typical Queen Bey fashion, she posted a radiant picture of herself wearing lingerie and a long veil while cupping her round belly. The bright floral background certainly added to the uniqueness of the photo – I had never anything like it. It was reminiscent of an image in which the Virgin Mary is engulfed in a halo of soft yellow light while cupping her belly.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate this epic moment in pop culture history. NO ONE does pregnancy reveals better than Beyoncé. Remember the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards where she dropped the mic after her performance, then rubbed her growing belly? That alone is a perfect example of how Beyoncé stands out from the crowd.
I, for one, am excited to see Blue Ivy become a big sister. Will she be jealous of her new siblings and refuse to share the spotlight, or accept and love them? I wouldn’t be surprised if she was a bit apprehensive at first. No one likes being overshadowed by a new baby, never mind two. At least all three children will have great style and two amazing parents. Admit it, at some point in our lives, we’ve all wished that we were adopted by Beyoncé and Jay Z.
How about potential baby names? Will the twins be named after different colours, just like Blue Ivy? Please make that happen. Also, which celebrities will be seen with the new additions? Will Kim Kardashian bring North and Saint West over for playdates? I can’t bear the thought of all that cuteness in one room.
Don’t forget the endless possibilities for new music. I can definitely foresee the release of an album about the twins sometime in the near future. First, let’s take a moment to appreciate the greatness of Lemonade, which is arguably one of Beyoncé’s most personal records. Her music is raw, beautiful, emotional and thought-provoking when she tackles subjects such as love, race and gender. The addition of new children is bound to have a profound effect on our dear Queen Bey, and I can’t wait to hear the new material that she comes up with.
Amidst all the reaction, analysis and memes surrounding this extraordinary world event, I’m truly happy for Beyoncé and wish her nothing but happiness and good health. May she and her family continue to grace our social media feeds with beauty, grace and a general sense of awesomeness. It looks like 2017 won’t be such a bad year after all.
