Thousands of people in Ontario are waiting for an organ transplant. Organ donation is a complicated process and Ontario needs more people to be registered organ donors. Unfortunately, this is a huge problem that most people don’t even know about.
My residence, Med-Syd, realized that we can change these statistics. The residence created a goal to get all residents to check whether or not they’re organ donors, and decide whether or not this is something they would like to sign up for. Over 200 Med-Syd residents have already checked online to see their status.
As part of a huge university in Ontario, you can help spread this message across Western. Tell your classmates. Tell your friends. Tell your family. Maybe someone you know will decide to be an organ donor as well.
What does it mean to be an organ donor?
If you consent, your organs will be donated once you pass (if in hospital), to those who critically need them.
For more information on how this works, check out this site: https://beadonor.ca/about-donation.
You can check here to see if you’ve already consented.
It’s a great idea to register NOW if you believe in this cause. It’s also good to know that you can withdraw your consent at any time. And it’s free to register.
