I think, as a first time blogger on Purpology, I should start out with a big hello to everyone! I am super excited to be a part of the Purpology team, and can’t wait to share my advice and ideas with you all.
I wanted my first post to be something fun yet encouraging, and what a better way to do this than by sharing my amazing experience at Paint Authority this past weekend! If you haven’t already heard about this, it’s a residence wide paint war, involving hundreds of frosh getting creative and messy with paint. We all wore white t-shirts, grabbed cups of paint, and then proceeded to splatter each other from head to toe. There was no mercy for anyone. It didn’t matter who you were or if you didn’t know a single person there. You were not leaving with any white left on you, or without sharing a few laughs. It didn’t even matter that we were all still getting to know each other, because this was an excuse to get a little wild with your fellow frosh! No one was shy about splashing anyone else. We all just went for it.
I cannot put into words how amazing it felt to just let loose for ten minutes! If there’s only one piece of advice I can give, it’s to never pass on the opportunity to cover yourself in paint because it is such an invigorating feeling. This past weekend I was overwhelmed and consumed with class midterms and projects, but deciding to take just ten minutes to go wild with paint was the best stress reliever I have ever experienced. Sometimes we just need to kick back, relax and have fun! If we focus too much on the task at hand and forget to exercise our creativity, we never give our brain time to breath. Paint Authority proved to be such an alleviating bonding experience. I got to mingle with hundreds of people in my residence that I hadn’t even met yet, while letting all of my worries out by smearing paint all over everyone’s ‘not so white’ t-shirts. Being in a kaleidoscope of first years was the most positively stimulating atmosphere and made me feel more motivated afterwards.
So don’t be afraid to let your wild side out from time to time. It’s there for a reason. Exercise your imagination, and go crazy with other frosh because I promise you won’t regret a second of it. There are times in life for more serious moments, and times to leave all of your worries behind. Don’t take life too seriously all of the time though, because no one gets out alive anyways. I guess my point is live in the moment, Carpe Diem, and get to know people! If you live by this, then I can assure you that your first, second, even upper years at university, or even your life in general, will be so much more enjoyable.
