Happy Sunday Everyone! While perusing the internet this weekend, I stumbled upon this article:
in which JK Rowling, author of the infamous Harry Potter series, admitted that Hermione should have married Harry instead of Ron at the end of their adventure!!
When I first read the seventh book, I agreed that Hermione and Harry should have ended up together, but I was surprisingly okay with the fact that it didn’t happen. I think that I came to admire Ron and thought that he was just as much of a hero as Harry by the end of the journey, so I was happy that he had fallen in love with such an amazing girl like Hermione. Ultimately, I was just glad that JK Rowling didn’t kill one of the trio off (I still don’t forgive her for killing Sirius though).
JK Rowling hopes that this new admission won’t break any of her fans’ hearts and I’m also curious to see how Harry Potter fans react to this news. Growing up with this fantastic, magical story and then hearing that the author regretted the final destiny of her characters, I can imagine that some serious HP lovers will feel crushed. However, I probably wasn’t as much of a Harry Potter fanatic as my fellow readers, so while I am disappointed by this news, it hasn’t exactly rocked my world.
And in the big scheme of things, the one thing JK Rowling is admitting to messing up has nothing to do with the major plot, conflict or resolution of the story; so it doesn’t actually seem like a big deal… to me at least. It’s still a well-written piece of literature, I still love the three heroes and I believe that walking into a train station wall will take me to platform 9 and 3/4.
So what’s your opinion? Does this new tidbit of information ruin your view on the HP series? Does it not change anything? Have you never read Harry Potter? That’s okay, everyone’s taste in books is different 🙂
Hope everyone has a lovely rest of the weekend and is doing well preparing for the upcoming midterm season!
