This past Saturday, the Music Faculty hosted Western’s second-ever Clarinet Day. Over 50 clarinetists from the London community and across Southern Ontario joined UWO clarinet students for a day of clinics, masterclasses, and performances, culminating in a 50-person clarinet choir – definitely a sight (and sound) to behold.

The guest artist for the event was Robert Spring, a US-based clarinetist. Highlights: a duo for four demi-clarinets (two halves of a clarinet being played at the same time), a clarinet with a PVC pipe attachment that required being played with the knees, and music based on Led Zeppelin. There was more traditional fare too, of course, including several excellent students performances.
